The stunning Body English nightclub is the newest addition to the exciting Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas, and one of the first applications of the revolutionary new dbx "ZonePro 640 Digital Zone Processor. Body English, which opened earlier this summer, has installed two of the ZonePro 640 systems, as well as seven dbx Zone Controllers. The state-of-the-art system was designed by John Lyons, President of Boston-based firm Moonlighting, Inc.
While the sound on the Body English dance floor is amazing, equally impressive is how well the sound is zoned in the lounge's sleek warren of VIP areas and private booths. Sixty-five speakers powered by Crown 4300 and I-Tech amplifiers were used to cover sound just in the areas outside the dance floor. When you have that many zones and that many speakers in them, it used to require a very elaborate and very expensive collection of gear hooked up just to make it work, explains Lyons, who is also a principal in clubs such as Avalon in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles and The Spider Club in New York and Los Angeles. Before, there were no products specifically designed for this multiple and highly discrete zoning approach, which is becoming more popular in clubs everywhere. So when I first heard about the dbx ZonePro 640, I recognized immediately that this was the solution lots of designers were seeking.
Lyons praises the ZonePro 640 for its intuitive user interface in some cases, zones are designed to be adjustable by the patrons as well as the system's sophisticated processing, which allows accurate timing with sound coming from the dance floor. If you're working with a two- or three-way system and you need sophisticated delay, remote control and remote source selection, you used to have to create a system from scratch, says Lyons. The ZonePro 640 solves all of those issues in a single box, and that fact makes it a cost-effective solution. For instance, it has an integrated fire alarm muting feature. That kind of attention to detail went into the design of the ZonePro 640, and the performance shows it.
