Clavia DMI was founded in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1983 by Hans Nordelius and Mikael Carlsson. In a basement in a southern suburb of Stockholm they created the world's first dedicated digital drum for the commercial market, the 'Digital Percussion Plate 1'.
From 1983 and on, Clavia has developed several groundbreaking digital percussion systems under the name ddrum, and in 1995 we also entered the synthesizer market with the world's first, and according to many still the best, 'virtual analog' synthesizer, the Nord Lead.
Today, we're 20 people working at Clavia. Currently we have five product lines
- Nord Lead 2X
- Nord Lead 3
- Nord Modular G2
- ddrum4 SE
- Nord Electro 2
The R&D department consists of a hardware and concept designer and five programmers. Three people work with marketing, sales and support and we have two purchasers and one financial controller. All Clavia electronic products are assembled and tho- roughly tested here by our production staff.
