Marshall DSL50 Description:
This head provides all the extra gain you'll ever need. This head provides all the extra gain you'll ever need. Features Classic Gain and Ultra Gain channels, both with 2 modes that can take you from warm, clean valve tones to the souped-up threshold of sonic danger. A Deep switch adds a resonant bass boost for a meatier bottom end, and a Tone Shift scoops out the mid frequencies making it ideal for heavy metal tones.
Reverb controls for each channel let you adjust the 'verb where you need it. Rear panel features include the usual speaker outputs, effects loop, and 2 footswitch jacks for changing channels and switching reverb in and out (footswitch not included). Delivers 50W of power and includes 4 ECC83 preamp valves and 2 EL34 power amp valves.
DSL is an acronym for 'Dual Super Lead', so it should come as no surprise that this amp has two footswitchable channels - Classic and Ultra. Furthermore, each of these channels boasts two modes: the Classic channel offers a Clean / Crunch option while the Ultra offers Lead 1 or Lead 2. Instead of merely offering a variation in gain level to the two channels, each one of these four modes has been individually voiced as an amp in its own right!
Marshall DSL50 Features:
- EL34 power tubes on the DSL50 and DSL50 (EL84 power tubes on the DSL401)
- 12AX7 preamp tubes
- Deep Switch - adds a tuned (resonant) bass boost, increasing bottom end thud that can't be emulated by a simple EQ network.
- Presence Control - Adds higher frequencies creating crispness and bite in the power stage.
- Tone Shift - Push this in and turn down the Middle control for the 'scooped' tone used in metal styles.
- PED801 (one is included) single button footswitch for switching channels
- Effects Loop Series fx loop with +4 and -10 switching for adding external rack or stompbox effects. As a general rule, you'll want to run ambience and modulation effects through the loop and gain, compressors and wah's through the front of the amp. But as always, try both and see what works best for you. This applies to all fx loops in all Marshall amps.
- Reverb - DSLs feature separate reverb controls for blending the perfect ambient tone.
